history

In 1970 the Wengernalpbahn procured six ABDhe 4/4. This was the second, further developed and modified (A) BDhe 4/4 series. Differences to their predecessors (A) BDhe 4/4 101–118 were only slight technical changes, such as the modernization of the braking system and the installation of door drives that allowed the train driver to open and close the doors electrically. At that time, the Wengernalp Railway did not dare to use the emerging thyristor technology , as the railcars were supposed to run on direct current. In addition, the floor frames were built in such a way that the option to include GF central buffer couplings existed. This would have made it possible to use the railcars as a double unit. Outwardly there were more differences, such as the change in the front section and the construction of a single-arm pantograph. The six railcars were given the numbers 119 to 124. This new acquisition allowed the offer to run every half hour in winter. The half-hourly cycle was the test run for the cycle timetable introduced throughout Switzerland in 1982 . In 1982, 1st class was removed from the railcars. The railcars were now called BDhe 4/4 119–124. In 1998 WAB installed GF central buffer couplings. This now made it possible to use the new BDt 241–244 control car. In addition, the railcars received a new yellow-green color scheme. In the years 2009 to 2012, the BDhe 4/4 120–123 were converted to three-phase asynchronous motors and they also got an interior refreshment and a passenger information system.

technology

The BDhe 4/4 119–124 have a top speed of 25 km / h. They have four 4MHe engines and an hourly output of 440 kW. They are fed with direct current via their single-arm pantograph. The BDhe 4/4 119–124 are pure rack rail cars. The diameter of the running wheels is 670 mm, that of the pinion gears 573 mm. Their service weight is 25.7 t. The railcars have the axle arrangement 2'zz2'zz and a total wheel base of 13,110 mm.

construction

The BDhe 4/4 119-124 have a total of 39 seats. In the railcar section below the pantograph there is a 2.8 m² luggage compartment, including for the luggage of the passengers. The railcar has a high floor throughout.

commitment

The BDhe 4/4 119–124 have been in use on the Lauterbrunnen - Wengen - Kleine Scheidegg section since they went into operation. Today the railcars 120–123 operate there with the articulated control cars BDt 241–244. The BDeh 4/4 119 and 124 were retired and broken off in 2015.
