WAMU-FM ("American University Radio") is a public radio station for the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area. The station broadcasts on VHF 88.5 M Hz with 50 k W and has two HD radio channels. The operator is the American University on whose campus the WAMU studios are located. In 2013, WAMU was ranked sixth among the “Highest Reaching Public Radio Stations”, the most frequently received radio stations in the United States.

The WAMU HD2 channel broadcasts Bluegrass Country, which is also broadcast via the bluegrasscountry.org stream . This channel is also broadcast terrestrially in northern Virginia on 105.5 MHz as W288BS .

The Diane Rehm Show , a talk radio show on current topics with Diane Rehm , was produced by WAMU and broadcast nationwide via the NPR network.
