WBBM-AM ("Newsradio 780") is a US radio station from Chicago , Illinois . On the medium wave frequency 780 k Hz , the station transmits a message format with 50 k W as a clear channel station. She belongs to CBS Radio today . WBBM-AM is simulcasted by its VHF station WBBM-FM .

In the history of the station, many well-known jazz musicians made stops at WBBM . For example, Lurlean Hunter sang a jingle for the station.

The beginnings of WBBM go back to 1911. Leslie and Ralph Atlass, the owners of Mallory Battery Company in Lincoln , Illinois, started an experimental radio station that year. In 1924 she received a commercial license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with the callsign still valid today . It stands for "World's Best Battery Maker". It was later reinterpreted as "We Broadcast Better Music". Originally the station broadcast on MW 1330 kHz.

WBBM has been transmitting at 50 kW since 1935. The studios were located in various locations in Chicago until 1956. Since then, WBBM has broadcast from North McClurg Court until it moved to Two Prudential Plaza in 2006.
