WFED (also: Federal News Radio ) is a US radio station in Maryland .

The transmitter is a so-called "Class A" - clear channel station and is located in Wheaton , Maryland . It broadcasts news, talk, and information for state agency workers. This is why the name Federal News Radio is used. KSTP and WFED are owned by Hubbard Broadcasting and broadcast from Hubbard's Broadcast Complex in Northwest Washington, DC

history

Today's WFED first went on air as WTRC in Brooklyn on September 25, 1926 and relocated to Washington, DC in 1927. After various callsigns and changes of ownership (among other things, the radio company was owned by the 7-day Adventists ), the station is now owned by Hubbard Broadcasting .

Until 2006, WFED broadcast the games of the Washington Nationals , a baseball team, exclusively . From 2006 to 2007, WFED broadcast the Washington Post Radio (WPR) program.

Clark Howard and Larry King's shows will be broadcast live today .

technology

WFED transmits continuously with the maximum power of 50 k W and is the strongest medium wave station in Washington, DC / Maryland. At night, the broadcasts are directional to the north and south to avoid interference with the sister station KSTP-AM in St. Paul , Minnesota (also Clear Channel). The signal can be received all over the east coast of the United States and sometimes even in Europe if the range is too high . Since 2006, HD radio has also been broadcast.
