The Wałpusza (German: the Waldpusch ) is a small left tributary of the Omulew (Omulef) in Poland .

geography

The 65.7 km long river has its source in Jezioro Wałpusz ( German  Waldpusch Lake ) in the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship (formerly East Prussia ) northeast of the city of Szczytno ( Ortelsburg ), flows south, crosses Droga krajowa 53 near Młyńsko , passes the village of Stachy (until 1945: Waldpusch) and flows into the Omulew at the village of Sędrowo ( German  Sendrowen ) , which forms the border with the Masovian Voivodeship here.

history

The first mention of Lake Wałpusz goes back to around 1420. At that time the lake was called Alpus , also Walpus. The name has its roots in the Old Prussian language and can be interpreted as "young, fresh" when the Hittite , Lithuanian and Latvian languages are included. In German , a “d” was inserted through a reinterpretation to “forest”.
