Arcadia of My Youth ( jap. わが青春のアルカディア, dt "The Arcadia of my youth.") Is a 130-minute science fiction - Anime and was established in 1982 by the Toei Company and The Tokyu Agency Ltd. produced.

The story gives a glimpse into the beginnings of space pirate Harlock by author Leiji Matsumoto , whose adventures have been featured in several television series, manga, and films. The television series The Adventures of the Fantastic Space Pirate Captain Harlock tells of events that occurred after Waga Seishun no Arcadia . The television series Waga Seishun no Arcadia: Mugen Kidō SSX , also released in 1982, continues the film with an alternative story.

The term Arcadia describes an ideal, fictional place.

Earth has lost the war against an alien humanoid race, the Illumids, and must give up all colonies on other planets. The surviving colonists have to work as slaves for the occupiers on the devastated earth.

Captain Harlock, who flies a refugee ship to Earth, realizes that his fiancée Maya is running an illegal rebellion station and refuses to serve the Illumids. When Harlock meets the mechanic Tochiro, they both discover that their ancestors met during the turmoil of World War II.

After the failed attempt of Harlock and his friends to save the planet Tokarga and its people from destruction by the Illumids, Harlock is banished from earth. His remaining friends and allies go into exile with him. Zedas proposes a duel to Harlock, which Harlock wins with the help of a sight from the Second World War. Harlock then attacks the illumid fleet.

  • Captain Harlock comes from a Germanic pirate knight clan whose headquarters are in the fictional Heiligenstadt , which like all earthly cities has been completely destroyed. Two of his ancestors are Phantom F. Harlock and Phantom F. Harlock II, who appear in flashbacks.
  • Toshirō Ōyama is Harlock's best friend. He is a brilliant inventor and mechanic who built the spaceship Arkadia without help. His connection to Harlock's family dates back to World War II.
  • Māya is Harlock's fiancée and runs the rebel channel "Free Voice of Arcadia".
  • La Mimé is an alien and one of the last survivors of her planet, which was destroyed by the Illumids. La Mime is just as reluctant to serve the Illumids as it is to customs.
  • Emeraldas is a freelance trader in space and the captain of the merchant ship "Queen Emeraldas", although both her ship and her clothing are already decorated with the skull symbol. She has known Harlock for a long time and is good friends with him.
  • Zoll is a Tokargian soldier in the service of the Illumids. His planet was conquered long before Earth. Zoll reluctantly serves the conquerors as he fears for his family on Tokarga.
  • Zēda is the commander of the Illumidian occupation forces on Earth and a very proud man.
  • Murigson is Zeda's deputy and responsible for the atrocities against the population.
  • Triter is the chairman of the committee for the cooperation with the Illumiden and is a person who wants to put the occupiers at ease in order to obtain advantages for the population.
