Coordinates: 35 ° 7 ′ S , 147 ° 22 ′ E The City of Wagga Wagga is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 4824.5 km² and has about 62,000 inhabitants.
Wagga Wagga is located in the southern half of the state on the Murrumbidgee River about 245 km west of the Australian capital Canberra and 480 km northeast of Melbourne . The area comprises 103 hamlets and villages, including Alfredtown, Arajoel, Borambola, Brookdale, Burrandana, Collingullie, Galore, Malebo, Mangoplah, Oberne, Pulletop, Tarcutta, Wagga Wagga and Westby as well as parts of Downside, Forest Hill, Humula, The Rock, Urangquinty and Wantabadgery. The seat of the City Council is in the city of Wagga Wagga in the center of the LGA, which has about 48,000 inhabitants.
Wagga Wagga is twinned with the Bavarian city of Nördlingen , with Leavenworth in the US state of Kansas and with Kunming in the Chinese province of Yunnan.

The Wagga Wagga City Council has 15 members who are elected by the residents of the LGA. Wagga Wagga is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
