Election to the National Assembly in Iraq in 2005
The election to the National Assembly in Iraq on January 30, 2005 was the first election in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein .
275 seats were awarded in the elections. A total of 7,200 candidates ran on 111 lists for the elections to the National Assembly. An important task of the new parliament was the drafting of the Iraqi constitution by August 15th. With a turnout of 58% of the voters who registered, there was a victory for the United Iraqi Alliance of Ibrahim al-Jafari .
There were other parties and independent candidates, all of which missed a seat in parliament.
