Election to the National Assembly in Benin 2011

The parliamentary elections in Benin 2011 were held on April 30, 2011 in the West African state of Benin , postponed from the originally planned April 17. The 83 members of the National Assembly were elected . The elections took place a few weeks after the presidential election and ended with the victory of the Forces Cauris pour un Bénin émergent party , which won 41 out of 83 seats in parliament. The victorious party was formed by supporters of the previous and current President Yayi Boni , who was also victorious in the presidential election . 3.6 million eligible voters were called to vote from 1,600 candidates and 20 parties and coalitions. However, in the shadow of the presidential election, the election met with little interest from the electorate. The main opponents were the same as in the presidential election: The only serious opponent of the president's supporting party, Forces Cauris pour un Bénin émergent , was the Union fait la Nation , which had been formed as a coalition to support the presidential candidate Adrien Houngbédji against President Yayi Boni .
