True Orthodox Church

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

True Orthodox Church is a name given to some Orthodox churches in Southeastern Europe and Eastern Europe .

history

In 1924 the Church of the True Orthodox Christians of Greece was founded, which opposed the introduction of the New Julian Calendar in the Orthodox Church of Greece . At the same time, underground congregations ( catacomb churches ) emerged in the Soviet Union that rejected the rapprochement between the Russian Orthodox Church and the new Soviet power.

In the following decades, other small churches emerged as splits, especially after 1990.

Theological orientation

The True Orthodox Churches see themselves as part of a church movement. This is based on the principles of the old calendar churches in Greece and the catacomb churches in the Soviet Union.

The churches are theologically very traditional, they reject the innovations of the Greek and Russian churches. They also reject the sacraments and consecrations of the great churches.
