Walburga honor guard Helena Countess von Hohenthal , later Lady Walburga Paget (born May 3, 1839 in Berlin , † October 11, 1929 in Newnham on Severn , Gloucestershire) was a German court lady at the Prussian royal court and author.

Life

She was a daughter of Carl Friedrich Anton Graf von Hohenthal (1803-1852) and Emilie Albertine geb. Countess von Gneisenau (1809–1855). Her siblings were Carl Friedrich Moritz von Hohenthal (1840–1925) and Angelica Adelheid Valeria (1841–1870), her grandfather was Carl Ludwig August von Hohenthal .

Sent to the royal Prussian court in Berlin at a young age , Walpurga von Hohenthal was one of the ladies-in-waiting of Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland , the Prussian Crown Princess. Together with Maria zu Lynar, she was appointed lady-in-waiting after Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha protested against the fact that his daughter was only associated with significantly older court batches at the Prussian court. Thereupon the two countesses were additionally appointed court ladies. In 1860 Walburga von Hohenthal resigned from court service and married the British diplomat Augustus Berkeley Paget († 1896). Her successor at court was her younger sister Valerie (1841–1878), who was banned from court a few years later because she was involved in a tragic scandal that was kept top secret.

Walburga von Hohenthal left extensive records of the age she had lived through. She and her husband lived at the Danish royal court, among other places. There she played a role in the marriage between the Prince of Wales and the Danish king's daughter Alexandra of Denmark .
