Walburgiskerk (Zutphen)
The Walburgiskerk (also called Walburgkerk ; German Walburgiskirche ) is the main church in the Dutch city of Zutphen , Gelderland province .
history
The oldest part of the church dates from the 11th century. Most of the current building dates from the 13th century; the church has had its current appearance since the 16th century. Until 1261 the Walburgiskerk was the only parish church in Zutphen. It has been in Protestant hands since the conquest of Zutphen by Moritz of Orange in 1591.
At the church there is a library from 1561, one of the few remaining chain libraries in Europe.
organ
The organ built by Hans Henrich Bader from 1639, which is considered to be the largest Dutch organ of the late Renaissance / early baroque, is worth seeing and hearing . The instrument has been changed and expanded over the course of time, mainly by the organ builders Johannes Wilhelmus Timpe (1813) and NA Lohman (1824). In 1976 and 1996 the organ was restored by the Reil Brothers organ building company and returned to its historical condition from the 17th century. In 2016 the organ was published as a virtual version (sample set) for Hauptwerk (software) . The instrument has 38 registers on three manuals and a pedal . The actions are mechanical.
