The Avnjugski Forest Railway ( Russian Авнюгская Узкоколейная Железная Дорога, Avnjugskaja Uskokolejnaja Zheleznaya Doroga ) is a narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 750 mm in the Arkhangelsk Oblast in Russia .

history

The starting point of the railway is the village of Avnjugski (Possjolok), German: Avnjugische Siedlung , which for the sake of simplicity is named after the left tributary of the Northern Dvina Avnjuga ( Avnuga ). The road Kotlas - Beresnik leads through Avnjuga - 2015 with about 1200 inhabitants . There is no connection to the Russian railway network.

Today's end point of the railway is the settlement with the official name Poperetschka, which is also called simply after the river Sojga that flows through it . About 200 people live there and in the vicinity. There is no road connection between Sojga and Avnjuga.

The railroad started operating around 1958. Their main task was to transport wood from the forests to enable further processing and removal by road or river. In the 1960s the already mentioned settlement Sojga was built for the forest workers. The Avwnjuga – Sojga railway has a length of 32 kilometers. About halfway a route branched off in a southerly direction. This reached a length of about 40 kilometers, led to a number of wood storage areas, but without touching human settlements.

In 2005 the railway was still in full operation. At that time the timber company was not yet privatized and organized as a company of the oblast. Passenger traffic took place twice a day from Avnjuga Posadochnaja (bus stop) and Sojga. The ticket cost one ruble , from June 28, 2005 five rubles.

Freight traffic was completely discontinued around 2010, and in 2013 the tracks between the passenger stop and the freight station were dismantled. The southern branch line was also completely dismantled.

In 2020, passenger transport will be carried out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; one car is usually sufficient. The section of the route that is still in use is in good condition.

Locomotives

The following locomotives were used on the narrow-gauge railway. Due to the low demand, it is questionable whether all of them are still available and ready for use.
