The Waldberg , also called Wallberg , is a 342.8  m high mountain in the Palatinate Forest ( Rhineland-Palatinate ). A little below the summit is the gymnastics memorial , there is also a restaurant and a sports field, where a mountain gymnastics festival is held every year on Ascension Day .

The Waldberg is located west of the Palatinate country town of Deidesheim on its boundary, its summit is approx. 1.3 km from the edge of the settlement. To the north of the forest mountain lies the Sensental, to the south the Mühltal. At almost 343 meters, it is almost as high as the Kirchberg to the north (344 m).

A non-asphalted driveway leads past the summit for about 120 m, which can be continued on to the Eckkopf and the Vorderen Langenberg . At the foot of the forest mountain lies an old Loogfels, the Hinkelstein .

Natural allocation

The Waldberg is at the edge of the Haardt low mountain range , which belongs to the Palatinate Forest natural area.

In the hierarchy of natural spaces it is in the following nesting:

  • Greater region 1st order: Layer level land on both sides of the Upper Rhine Rift
  • Greater region 2nd order: Palatinate-Saarland layer level land
  • Greater region 3rd order: Palatinate Forest
  • 4th order region (main unit): Middle Palatinate Forest
  • 5th order region: Haardt
