The forest fires in southern France 2017 were a natural disaster that raged in southern France and on the island of Corsica since July 24, 2017 .

Provence and Cote d'Azur

On July 24, 2017, forest fires broke out in the municipality of La Bastidonne in Provence north of Aix-en-Provence after strong winds . The TV station Franceinfo reported on Tuesday that 20 firefighters and police officers had been injured or suffered from smoke inhalation . At least 10,000 residents and tourists had to be brought to safety on Wednesday night. The emergency services now have the 800 hectare area under control. Near St. Tropez in the Var department , more than 200 hectares of forest in La Croix-Valmer were burned . According to the first information, nobody was harmed.

In the Luberon in the Vaucluse department , around 800 hectares of forest burned; the residents of around a hundred houses in Mirabeau and a neighboring town had to leave them.

Corsica

On the island of Corsica , the fire near Aléria burned around 110 hectares of land. This fire is under control. Several vehicles and a sawmill were burned near Biguglia, and numerous residents were evacuated.
