Waldemar Röhricht

Waldemar Röhricht (born July 8, 1922 in Lampersdorf , Wohlau district ; † September 23, 2011 ) was General Secretary of the German Red Cross of the GDR (DRK).

Life

Röhricht, the son of a shoemaker , also learned this profession after attending primary school . In 1941 he was drafted into the Reich Labor Service and then into the Wehrmacht . He did military service as a medic and in 1945 was taken prisoner by the British .

In 1947 he returned from captivity and joined the SED . He became a member of the FDGB and the DRK. He worked first as a transport worker, then as a youth functionary in Greifswald. In 1948/1949 he was secretary of the FDGB district association Greifswald , 1949/1950 department head in the FDGB state board Mecklenburg and from 1950 to 1952 second secretary of the FDGB district association Greifswald. In 1952 he became a trainer at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald . From 1952 to 1957 he was chairman of the DRK district committee in Greifswald. Röhricht attended evening school and completed an apprenticeship as a state-certified nurse in 1960 . He later studied at the party college "Karl Marx" with a degree in social science . From 1957 to 1960 he was chairman of the Rostock DRK district association . From 1961 to 1966 he was General Secretary of the DRK of the GDR and a member of the Presidium of the DRK. Later he worked as secretary of the DRK district board Schwerin .

Röhricht was a holder of the DRK badge of honor and an honorary member of the DRK district association Rostock.
