Waldemar Zipperer

Waldemar Zipperer (born August 12, 1913 in Offenburg ; † July 2011 there ) was a German entrepreneur.

He gained historical importance through his involvement in the arrest of the Hitler assassin Georg Elser on November 8, 1939, when he wanted to flee to Switzerland at night in Constance . For this he was promoted from auxiliary border clerk to customs assistant and awarded the customs border guard badge of honor .

In 1936 he had already founded a car dealership in Offenburg . After the Second World War , he expanded his position as a Ford main dealer with branches in Wolfach , Kehl and Donaueschingen . In 1962 he founded the Zippo company in Offenburg and became the market leader in Germany with lifting platforms. His wife Bernadette helped build this company. For reasons of age, he sold Zippo Lift GmbH, which is now based in Halver . Zipperer received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1979 for his services to the economy, as the founder of the CDU Economic Council and promoter of Franco-German relations .
