history
The first Europeans crossed the Mississippi River in the vicinity of the town around 1541 . Much later, the place was founded by German immigrants . In the 2000 population census, however, the most frequent indication of ancestry was not "German", as in the areas bordering to the north, but "American", which indicates a strong mix of different immigrant groups in historical times.
