Waldensian Church (conscience rest)
The Waldensian Church is the Protestant parish church of Gewissenruh , a district of the Wesertal community in the Hessian district of Kassel .
The village of Gewissenruh, which was founded as a "colony" by Landgrave Karl von Hessen-Kassel in 1722 for Waldensian religious refugees from France , was only given its own church in 1779, after the church in neighboring Gottstreu had been used up until then . Unlike the other Huguenot churches in the Landgraviate of Kassel, the Waldensian Church of Gewissenruh is built as a classicist stone building in Weser sandstone . The French inscription above the main entrance reads: 1 Aout 1779 Gen XXVIII V 16 Certes l'éternel est en ce lieu et je n'en savois rien (translation: August 1, 1779, Genesis 28, verse 16: Certainly, the Lord is on this place and I didn't know ).
Inside, the simple church has a pulpit above the communion table and a gallery. The organ dates from 1885.
Today Gewissenruh belongs together with Gottstreu to the Lippoldsberg parish in Ev. General Association of Oberweser.
