The Waldfreibad Heidenheim (also Waldbad Heidenheim ) is an outdoor swimming pool opened in 1954 in Heidenheim an der Brenz in Baden-Württemberg .
history
At the beginning of the 20th century , Heidenheim was the only open-air bathing establishment to have a natural swimming pool on Lake Brenzsee . This bathroom, located at the northern entrance to the village in front of the WCM factory halls , was relocated a few hundred meters upstream in 1933 (today's area of the Brenzpark Arena). Because of the heavy sedimentation of the Brenz, the moist soils of the adjacent lake meadows and the frequent ground fog , this location was not very suitable for a river swimming pool. The local council therefore decided in 1938 to build a new modern outdoor pool with a swimming pool . Later plans for an adjacent sports park with a stadium, tennis courts and a large outdoor swimming pool were discarded due to the lack of budget due to the war. Higher locations within the city such as Schlossberg , Großer Bühl and Heckental were discussed as possible locations for a purely open-air swimming pool . Following a recommendation by the German Society for Bathing , the forest outdoor pool was finally built in the Rauhbuchtal and opened on July 16, 1954. The construction costs amounted to around one million DM on completion .
Plant and equipment
The outdoor pool area has a total area of around 45,000 m². Most of it is used as a play and sunbathing area. In addition to areas with playground equipment, there are several table tennis tables, goal walls and a volleyball, basketball and soccer field each.
Three stainless steel swimming pools have been installed in the Heidenheim outdoor swimming pool. The swimmer's pool has a size of 50 x 20 m and is suitable for competitions with eight swimming lanes. The capacity is 2.5 million liters, the greatest water depth is 3.80 m. There is a diving platform with a 3 meter diving board and a 1 meter diving board. The non-swimmer pool has a size of 40 x 25 m, the greatest water depth is 1.30 m. It is equipped with an approximately 11 m long water slide and a surge mushroom. A partially covered paddling pool is available for small children, the greatest water depth here is 0.40 m. The water of the three swimming pools is heated to approx. 24 ° C.
Between 2015 and 2017, extensive renovation work was carried out on buildings and paths, and the changing and sanitary areas were expanded. The walk-through pools in front of the swimming pools were renewed and the two worn slides were replaced by a wide water slide. The total costs amounted to 1.7 million euros.
The operator of the forest swimming pool is the Heidenheim city administration.
