Residential building

The house Waldhausener Road 108 is in the district of Gladbach in Mönchengladbach ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ).

The building was built in 1890 and entered into the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach on December 4, 1984 under No. W 008 .

location

In the western upper town, the three-storey plastered building stands as a corner building facing Waldhausener- and August-Pieper-Straße with two facade views in the same structure and decoration system, only differing in detail.

architecture

Horizontal accentuation of the building structure through the offset basement plinth, sill or floor and eaves cornice . The side of the house facing Waldhausener Straße is designed as the main and entrance front in the shape of a three-window house. The uniformity of the facade structure is only interrupted by a cautious emphasis on the two outer axes by means of artistically raised window frames.

The windows, arranged at regular center-to-center distances, are uniformly rectangular in shape and have a different floor-to-floor frame in finely modeled Art Nouveau ornamentation . The windows on the ground floor, like the deeply cut, right-hand house entrance, are framed with a profiled frame and flat crown ornaments ( acanthus leaves ) that occupy an oversized imitation keystone . The windows on the first floor are more richly decorated. With the same profile framing, the crown decoration formulated in vegetal form on the middle window is highlighted and finished off with an entablature . The two outer windows are set off by a basket-arched roofing in the form of a garland of tendrils, which sets additional accents through the middle and hanging ribbons.

The window openings on the second floor are distinguished by a modified frame panel, which continues as a festoon-filled parapet accentuation and which is adorned with a keystone ornamented with stylized tendrils . The facade facing August-Pieper-Strasse is laid out in four axes and is bound by the same structure and design scheme as the neighboring house No. 2 on the left. Window openings in form and design analogous to those of the neighboring house and those of the entrance front, whereby the two right-hand windows were formulated as blind windows with horizontal fluting - imitation of blinds. The eaves cornice, separated by a wide plaster strip, is designed as a simple wooden box cornice with a curtain channel. A combination of hipped / gable roof completes the building.

The protection is based on urban planning and architectural-historical reasons.
