The Waldmoorspanner ( Macaria brunneata , Syn . : Itame brunneata , Itame fulvaria ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of the Spanner (Geometridae).
description
The species has a wingspan of 25 to 30 millimeters. The wings are yellow ocher, densely pollinated in the male, lighter in the female. The male is indistinct on the upper side, while the female is sharply drawn. The front wings have four brownish spots on the front edge, from which two to three, rarely more transverse lines arise. The hind wings carry two to three often more or less extinguished transverse lines.
distribution
The forest bog spanner is widespread across Eurasia , on the American continent from Alaska to Newfoundland and south to New England , Michigan and Wyoming . In Central Europe, the species occurs frequently locally, especially in the low mountain ranges and the Alps, as well as in bogs in the plains, but in other areas, particularly limestone areas, it is rare or completely absent in certain regions.
Occurrence
The species flies from May to July in blueberry forests, on raised bogs, pelts, heaths and clearings. In the Alps it reaches a height of 2000 meters. The caterpillar lives on blueberries or wild berries , more rarely also on willows , especially sal willow and ear willow . In blueberry forests, the caterpillars can occasionally produce deforestation. The egg hibernates. It is oval, pink with strong hexagonal mesh and small white warts at the corners. The caterpillar, colored from green to purple-red, has clear side ridge lines. It pupates in the earth.
