The Waldschlösschen in Gehrden was built around 1898 excursion restaurant . The restaurant on the eastern slope of the Köthnerberg in the Gehrdener Berg ridge has long been one of the most attractive excursion destinations in the Hanover region , as has the Lower Saxony mountain inn in Gehrden. In 1971 the Waldschlösschen in what is now Lower Saxony was demolished and a residential complex was built on the site.

The forerunner was an excursion hut on Gehrdener Berg that was built in the 19th century. At the end of the 19th century, like the Benther Berg with the Benther Berg-Terrassen , the elevation developed into a popular excursion destination, especially for residents of the nearby city of Hanover . The journey was made easier by the overland route of the Hannoversche Straßenbahn AG to Gehrden, which was built in 1896 and which passed the excursion hut. In order to provide the growing tourism and Sunday excursionists with sufficient hospitality, the innkeeper Löchner, as the owner of the excursion hut, commissioned the Gehrden master mason Krull to build the excursion restaurant at the end of the 19th century. According to a building description from 1900, the building had a large dance hall and terraces on both sides, as well as a large wooden veranda on the facade. There was a marble dance floor on the terrace. The terrace walls were built from limestone from the area.

Near the Waldschlösschen is the " Felsenkeller ", built into the mountainside as an ice cellar in 1855 , in which the ice from the brewery pond was stored for later use in the winter months.

The last owner of the Waldschlösschen was Fritz Löchner (1907–1969). He made the restaurant known far beyond the borders of Gehrden. After the Second World War , the guests included many visitors to the Hanover Fair . In the basement of the building there was a room in the form of a wooden hut called the robber's den . There drinks with unusual names such as “general anesthesia”, “testament”, “mother-in-law's kiss”, “robber's love” or “blood clot” were served.

The building fabric had already suffered in the 1960s. After the death of the owner Fritz Löchner in 1969, the building was demolished in 1971 after a period of fallow.
