Valery Ivanovich Gliwenko

Valery Glivenko ( Russian Валерий Иванович Гливенко * December 21, 1896 jul. / 2. January  1897 greg. In Kiev ; † 15. February 1940 in Moscow ) was a Russian mathematician and logician . The fundamental theorem of statistics - the Gliwenko-Cantelli theorem - was named after him and Francesco Cantelli .

Life

Gliwenko studied in Moscow and worked from 1928 until his death as a professor at the local educational institute "Karl Liebknecht". In mathematics, he devoted his research to the fundamentals of mathematics , probability theory and constructive logic .
