Valery Kovtun

Valery Petrowytsch Kovtun ( Ukrainian Валерій Петрович Ковтун ; born October 22, 1944 in Jassynuwata , Ukrainian SSR ; † February 3, 2005 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Ukrainian ballet dancer , ballet master and choreographer .

Life

Valery Kovtun attended the Dnipropetrovsk Theater School from 1959 and then switched to the Ballet School in Kiev, which he graduated in 1965. In 1982 he became a ballet master at the State Institute for Theater Arts in Moscow . On December 24, 1964 he made his stage debut at the Kiev Opera and Ballet Theater . Between 1965 and 1968 he was a ballet dancer at the Charkow Ballet . In 1968 he became a soloist and between 1985 and 1987 the chief choreographer of the Kiev Opera House. From 1989 to 1998 he was artistic director and chief choreographer of the Kiev Classical Ballet Theater. Between 1998 and 2005 he was chief choreographer of the Kiev Opera and Ballet Theater for Children and Young People. Valery Kovtun lived in Kiev, where he died in 2005 at the age of 60 and was buried in the Baikowe cemetery .
