Star for Lara Croft

The Walk of Game was a video game, character, and game developer award given by Sony Corporation of America in 2005 and 2006 . Based on the Hollywood Walk of Fame , a star with their name was embedded in the floor of the Walk of Game for the awardees. The 24 × 24- inch steel stars are located inside the Metreon , an entertainment complex and shopping mall in downtown San Francisco that was operated by entertainment company Sony at the time.

Well-known game developers, representatives of the developer companies and actors disguised as game characters (such as Karima Adebibe as Lara Croft ) were present at the award ceremony. The awards were taken up in detail by the press (especially the gaming press).

The stars were awarded in the categories of life's work (for people) and games / characters. Over the two years, a survey of members of the video game industry and technology, entertainment and gaming media created a list of people, video game characters, and games that were nominated for a star. Via the official website of the Walk of Game, players around the world could vote for their favorites. From the list, the four best placed in the category games / figures and the two best placed in the category Lifetime Achievement were awarded.

Sony announced the creation of the Walk of Game in 2003. In the first election from October 1–31, 2004, more than 200,000 votes were cast on the official website. The inauguration ceremony for the first stars took place on March 8, 2005 in the Sony Metreon Center, at the same time as the annual Game Developers Conference in the neighboring Moscone Center . After a speech by the mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom , the honors were by Simon Jeffery ( Sega of America ), Takashi Iizuka (Sega Studio USA), Marty O'Donnell ( Bungie Studios ), Bill Trina ( Nintendo of America , representing for Shigeru Miyamoto ) and most recently Atari founder Nolan Bushnell .

The main purpose of awarding the stars was to create a tourist attraction in Sony's shopping center, which in addition to arcade amusement arcades also housed Sony's Playstation Store, and thus to address the target group of young people who are enthusiastic about video games.

After the Metreon was sold to the Westfield Group in 2006, further stars were tacitly discontinued. The associated website has not been updated since then and has been discontinued.
