The Walker Lake is a lake in the Endicott Mountains , a mountain range of the Brooks Range , in northwestern Alaska . The lake is located in the south of the Gates of the Arctic National Park not far from the source of the Kobuk River .
The 37 km² lake is at an altitude of 207 m. It is 21.5 km long and has a maximum width of 2.8 km. The Kaluluktok Creek flows into the northern end of the lake . A 5 km long drain drains the lake from its southern end to the Kobuk River flowing past it to the south.
In 1968 the lake was designated as a National Natural Landmark . Walker Lake is an example of the interplay of geological and biological influences in a glacier-fed lake at the transition from the boreal zone to the tundra .
