Wallace Smith
Wallace Smith (* 2. April 1924 in Cincinnati , Ohio , USA ; † 11. July 1973 ) was an American boxer in the lightweight and world champion.
amateur
In 1947 he became English champion . The following year he won the Intercity Golden Gloves and represented his country at the Summer Olympics in the English capital, London , but did not win a medal .
His record was 52-4
professional
He won his professional debut in 1948 with a classic knockout in Round 1. The following year he won the USA Ohio State Title .
On June 29, 1955 he beat over 15 rounds on points Jimmy Carter by a split point decision and thus conquered the universal world championship belt. On August 24, 1956, he lost this title to Joe Brown by a split decision.
