description

Foliage leaves and flowers of Persoonia terminalis subsp. recurva

Appearance and leaf

Persoonia terminalis grows as an upright or spreading evergreen shrub that can reach heights of 0.7 to 1.5 meters. The bark is smooth. The bark of young twigs is sparsely covered with protruding or lying grayish hairs ( indument ).

The straight, uniform or slightly different, but not blue-green colored leaf blades are 3.5 to 10 millimeters long and 1.2 to 2 millimeters wide, narrow-elongated and convex with a broad blade base. The bent back edge of the leaf bend towards the tip of the leaf mostly a little to strong. Young leaves can be bald to sparsely hairy. Older leaves have a smooth to slightly rough surface.

Inflorescence and flower

The flowering period extends from December to January, but flowers have occasionally been observed in July. The inflorescence axis is 0 to 7 millimeters long. The flowers stand together individually or up to five over flaky leaves in lateral racemose inflorescences . The inflorescences usually end in an inactive bud . The upright to spreading flower stalks are 1 to 2 millimeters long and sparsely to moderately hairy. The flowers are usually above scale leaves.

The hermaphrodite flowers are fourfold. It's just a circle with four free, grown together only at their base bloom cladding available. The petals, which are sparsely hairy on the outside, are 9 to 13 millimeters long and blunt to pointed. There is only one circle with four free stamens . The ovary is bare. Each carpel contains two ovules .

ecology

The pollination is effected by insects ( Entomophilie ).

Occurrence

The natural range of Persoonia terminalis is in eastern Australia. It includes the area between Cecil Plains and Inglewood in southeastern Queensland and the area around Warialda and the area between Torrington and Binghi in northeastern New South Wales .

Persoonia terminalis grows in dry hard-leaved forests .

Taxonomy

The first description as Persoonia terminalis was in 1991 by Lawrence Alexander Sidney Johnson and Peter Henry Weston in Telopea , volume 4, number 2, page 281. The type specimen was 3.4 kilometers south of Torrington on the road between Torrington and Emmaville by Peter Henry Weston and Peter G. Richards found.

From Persoonia terminalis there are about two subspecies:

  • Persoonia terminalis L.ASJohnson & PHWeston subsp. terminalis : Their leaves are up to 6 to 10 millimeters long and are slightly bent back towards the tip.
  • Persoonia terminalis subsp. recurva L.ASJohnson & PHWeston : Their leaves, up to 3.5 to 7.5 millimeters long, are strongly bent back towards the tip.
