A chapel, later a monastery with a pilgrimage to Mary, in Renkum has been attested since the 12th century. After the Reformation there were only a few Catholics left in Gelderland. A new Catholic chapel was built in Renkum in the 18th century and a church in 1839. The growth of the community made a larger church necessary at the beginning of the 20th century, which was designed by the well-known architect Jos Cuypers, who was then 60 years old. It was consecrated on September 11, 1923 by Archbishop Henricus van de Wetering . The church is a cruciform brick basilica with Vierungs - Roof skylights and a semicircular apse in the north. In this there are seven apostle windows by Joep Nicolas .

The most precious possession of the church is the Gothic sculpture of the enthroned Mother of God with child in the Sedes sapientiae type . It is dated to the second half of the 14th century and was worshiped as a miraculous image in Renkum as early as the Middle Ages . Brought to safety from the iconoclasts in various places, it was forgotten. In 1928 she was erected and crowned in the new church as part of a large liturgical celebration . The great pilgrimages, whose goal Renkum had been since then, came to a standstill in the 1960s. For some years now, the number of groups of pilgrims and individual prayers, as well as the church services for the sick, has increased again. Annually there are five pilgrimage days, including Corpus Christi and the Assumption of Mary .

Rosarium Mariae

The meditation park Rosarium Mariae is a station path with 20 picture steles that represent the four by five secrets of the rosary . The park opened on May 27, 2012.
