Walter Aussendorfer (born April 18, 1939 in Tiers ) is an Italian luge athlete who was part of the Italian national team in the 1960s.
Career
Außenendorfer began his winter sports career as an alpine ski racer . At the age of 15 he won his first adult competition, but switched to luge on the advice of his uncle . In 1959 he started at the Luge World Championships for the first time .
The South Tyrolean celebrated his greatest triumph at the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 when he and Siegfried Mair won the bronze medal in the two-seater competition. In the single-seater competition, he had previously finished in 16th place.
At the 1965 Luge World Championships , Außenendorfer finished ninth in the singles and fifth in the doubles.
After the end of his active career, Außenendorfer ran the Hotel Krone in his home village of Tiers , where he was also a local councilor.
