Walter Becker (* 1956 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a German tango musician, singer and theater director.

Life

He was born in 1956 to immigrants of German origin in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was trained as an actor at the Taller de Teatro Guerberof (Guerberof School) in Buenos Aires. Under the direction of Guerberof he played from 1978 to 1981 a. a. in “Servant of Two Masters” ( Carlo Goldoni ), “The Bald Singer” ( Eugène Ionesco ), “Six People Are Looking for an Author” ( Luigi Pirandello ), “Hamlet” ( William Shakespeare ).

This was followed by acting seminars with Dario Fo and directing seminars with Robert Sturúa at the Teatro San Martín, Buenos Aires. Until 1989 he played in many other productions.

He was trained as a singer, musician and composer at private schools in Buenos Aires. He has been singing professionally since 1976; From 1978 to 1982 he was the conductor and singer of the vocal ensemble “Marajada”, with which he also recorded his first records. In the following years he composed mainly for theater and television until he discovered his love for " Tango Argentino " as a singer, musician, composer and dancer at the end of the 80s . As a tango singer he performs with his own programs. He gave concerts together with the "Trio Nostalgia", consisting of the guitarist Quique Sinesi , the bandoneonist Gustavo Battistessa and the pianist Pablo Paredes . In the features section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung he was referred to as “Germany's best tango singer”.

In 1995, in collaboration with Nanny Fornis in Stuttgart, “La República del Tango” was created, a multicultural meeting place and tango school. Together with Nanny Fornis, he directs the Teatro Ayelen Argentina in Stuttgart. At the same location, he and Nanny Fornis founded the CreArte International Acting Academy in Stuttgart in 1995, where he teaches improvisation, acting and singing.
