Walter Boas

Walter Boas (born February 10, 1904 in Berlin ; † May 12, 1982 in Melbourne , Australia ) was a German-Australian physicist.

Boas studied from 1922 to 1927 at the Technical University of Charlottenburg . In 1930 he became a Dr-Ing with his work on the temperature dependence of crystal plasticity. PhD. From 1930 to 1932 he worked at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Metal Research in Berlin.

In 1933 he had to emigrate. He then worked from 1933 to 1935 at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) , in 1936/37 at the ETH Zurich and in 1937/38 at the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London.

In 1938 he moved to Australia, where he became professor of physical metallurgy at the University of Melbourne in 1940 and worked for the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) from 1947 to 1969 .
