Walter Eckert

Walter Eckert (born September 8, 1913 in Leobersdorf , Lower Austria ; † January 7, 2001 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Walter Eckert studied from 1935 to 1939 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Herbert Boeckl (1894–1966). From 1945 he worked as a freelance artist. From 1967 to 1983 he taught at the Vienna Academy, where he was rector from 1967 to 1969 ; In 1972 he took over the leadership of the master class, which had been led by Gerda Matejka-Felden (1901–1984). From 1952 he was a member of the Vienna Secession , from 1965 to 1967 its president and later a board member.

Walter Eckert orientated himself on the classical modern . As a painter, he was primarily concerned with the human figure, and his head variations are particularly well known.

Walter Eckert was married to the painter Grete Yppen from 1959 . He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
