Walter Eichelkraut (* 1865 in Teltow ; † 1941 in Berlin ) was a German builder and contractor .

Life

Walter Eichelkraut was born in Teltow in 1865 as the son of a master mason. He started out as an apprentice to his father and then attended the building trade school in Berlin. He founded his own construction business in Zehlendorf (then near Berlin). Numerous historicist residential and commercial buildings, especially in the southwest of Berlin, can be traced back to him and his construction business. However, Eichelkraut was also occasionally active in Brandenburg and in western Germany. Before 1900, his own designs were based on models of brick Gothic, later elements of Neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau , and later also of architecture for the protection of the homeland, came to the fore. Some Eichelkrauts buildings are listed buildings . After the First World War , his designs were more strongly influenced by contemporary New Building . Eichelkraut died in Berlin in 1941. He took over the name of the father's workshop and named himself as his successor. He applied for various patents, including a. Fences and a 1912 US patent for a water closet.
