Walter Freivogel

Walter Freivogel (born November 14, 1919 in Dietlingen , † July 27, 2010 in Keltern ) was a German gymnast, gymnastics official and international referee .

Freivogel became a gymnast after seeing the 1936 Olympic champion, Alfred Schwarzmann , in action at a gymnastics show in Dietlingen as a teenager . He was active for TG Dietlingen, later the trained toolmaker was also a trainer in the club. In the Turngau Pforzheim-Enz and at the Badischer Turnerbund he was an instructor and art gymnast. From 1978 to 1984 he was a member of the Federal Artistic Gymnastics Committee of the German Gymnastics Federation . For more than 20 years he acted as a referee in apparatus gymnastics for men, including at German, European and World Championships. He also worked in this role at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, 1976 in Montreal, 1984 in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul. In 1985 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . In addition, he was an honorary member of the Badischer Turnerbund and holder of the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn plaque of the German Gymnastics Federation and the golden badge of honor of the International Gymnastics Federation .
