Walter Froneberg

Walter Froneberg (born June 17, 1932 in Hattingen ; † March 9, 2017 in Wetzlar ) was a German local politician ( SPD ). From 1979 to 1997 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Wetzlar.

Live and act

Walter Froneberg trained as a newspaper editor and moved to Hessen in 1956. From 1964 to 1973 he worked for the Wetzlarer Neue Zeitung and since 1964 has also been a member of the Wetzlar city council. Froneberg joined the SPD on November 1, 1959.

From 1973 to 1977 Froneberg worked in the magistrate as a full-time city councilor (building department). In 1979 he was elected mayor of Wetzlar after the SPD parliamentary group had won an absolute majority in the city council. He held this office for 18 years until 1997. Wolfram Dette (FDP) was his successor .

In 1990 Walter Froneberg received the Kurd-Laßwitz-Preis (special prize) for his commitment to the Fantastic Library in Wetzlar . In 2012 he was awarded the honorary plate of the city of Wetzlar.
