Walter Garski

Walter Garski (born November 12, 1884 in Berlin , † November 11, 1961 in Meisenheim ) was a German graphic artist and drawing teacher. He should not be confused with the author of the same name Walter Garski ( bl. 1941–1956) and the draftsman and illustrator Walter Gorski, born in 1899.

Life

Garski lived in Brandenburg an der Havel from 1906 to 1951 . There he recorded the developments and changes in the city in his works. In the first two decades of his activity there, he often worked on behalf of the city. So he designed in the inflation period the Token . After the Second World War , he documented the city in its demolished appearance , primarily in lithographs . He produced brochures and model figures for Brandenburg commercial enterprises and industry.

In the Saldria he worked as a drawing teacher and also worked in the Wredow School of Drawing . His main focus was on children and adolescents who are gifted in drawing.

With the relocation of the technical college for construction, he moved to Apolda . In 1955 he left the GDR and spent the end of his life in Meisenheim in the Rhineland-Palatinate .

In 2011 the city of Brandenburg dedicated a special exhibition to Garski on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death.
