Walter Gattow (born February 11, 1917 in Betzdorf ; † December 21, 1995 in Cochem ) was a German native writer and editor-in-chief .

Walter Gattow was editor-in-chief of the Rhein-Zeitung RZ local editorial office in Cochem from 1952 until his retirement in 1982 . With his numerous comments and statements on communal, sociopolitical and cultural events, he contributed as a kind of cornerstone to the formation of democratic opinion. He was particularly fond of the RZ supplement Heimat between Hunsrück and Eifel , which he was the sole editor responsible for from 1953 until his death and which is considered to be the oldest regular publication of its kind in the German press.

In memoriam Walter Gattow: In his obituary in the 1997 edition of the yearbook of the district of Cochem-Zell, the responsible editor-in-chief Alfons Friderichs wrote: "The home world of the district of Cochem-Zell has become poorer! Walter Gattow died on December 20th, 1995 died in Marienkrankenhaus in Cochem, the Moselle region has lost one of its most loyal sons " .
