Walter Herzog (pedagogue)

Walter Herzog (born November 21, 1949 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss educator .

Life

Herzog attended schools in Wiesendangen and Winterthur. He then studied psychology , sociology , education and philosophy at the University of Zurich . This was followed by a licentiate in 1975 and a doctorate in 1980. From 1976 Herzog worked as an assistant and from 1981 as a permanent research assistant at the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Zurich, where he received a scholarship from the Commission for the Promotion of Young Academics in 1984. The Venia legendi (license to teach), awarded in 1986, covers the subject of pedagogy with a special focus on pedagogical psychology. In 1988 he studied at the Institute of Human Development at the University of California, Berkeley . Herzog became an assistant professor in 1989. From 1991 to 2014, Herzog was full professor for pedagogy, pedagogical psychology, didactics and school research at the University of Bern , where he gave his farewell lecture on December 3, 2014 with the title “Theory and Practice - An Exploration on the Biographical Path”.
