Walter K. Werner
Walter K. Werner (born June 3, 1931 in Brandau , Czechoslovakia ; † November 10, 2008 ) was a German folk artist and wood artisan.
Life
Walter Werner was born in the Czechoslovak community of Brandau not far from the Saxon border. He attended elementary school in Deutschkatharinenberg , Saxony . In the Ore Mountains he came into contact relatively quickly with the toy shop, for which he - in addition to the Ore Mountains landscape - began to be enthusiastic. He decided to attend the toy school in Seiffen , where one of his teachers was primarily Max Schanz , who had a lasting influence on his artistic work.
In 1948 Walter Werner finished his apprenticeship and started as a wood artisan with the production of toys in the way typical for the Ore Mountains. Within a short period of time he specialized in the presentation of historical topics. So he decided in 1954 to design his masterpiece as a stagecoach with horses. As a result, he mainly created mountain parade figures and the famous Dresden prince procession . His historical representations were always preceded by detailed research into historical facts and circumstances in order to depict a picture of his figures that was as contemporary as possible. This resulted in high-quality and unmistakable figurative miniatures, which became his trademark of the Werner Figurines company founded in 1957 in the Seiffen toy village . In addition, he also produces so-called traditional Klimperkästen .
In 1999 Walter Werner handed over his company to the youngest son. On April 4, 2001 Werner was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class for his artistic work and for his voluntary work .
Exhibitions
His figures are not only shown in the permanent exhibition of the Seiffen Toy Museum, but also in special exhibitions, from November 28, 2015 to January 31, 2016 in the Zöblitz Serpentine Stone Museum .
Walter K. Werner Foundation
In 2010 his three sons established the Walter K. Werner Foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to promote her hometown Seiffen in the spirit of Walter K. Werner and to support projects that her father wrote down in his book Seiffen over eight centuries .
