history
The factor of the Saigerhütte Grünthal , Augustus Rohdt, received the Fortuna Fundgrube and the Pallas Fundgrube in 1620 . After the end of the Thirty Years War and the occurrence of the plague , the area was almost deserted. Bohemian exiles were settled on the cleared areas. An Anthon Bähr is said to be the first settler at Sanct Catharinaberg in 1663 . In 1708 the place Catharinenberg is written . or St. Catharinenberg
With the construction of the Olbernhau-Grünthal-Deutschneudorf railway line , the town with the station of the same name was connected to the railway on May 3, 1927. As early as September 1, 1933, it was downgraded to a stop again. Passenger traffic was stopped on May 22, 1966, and goods traffic followed on September 26, 1969. In accordance with an order, in 1971 all track systems and the steel bridge superstructures on the line were dismantled.
In 1955 the school in Deutschkatharinenberg was closed and from then on the students were taught in Deutschneudorf.
The Fortuna tunnel will be re- opened in 1998 , renovated by the Schneeberg mountain safety organization and converted into a visitor mine. In addition, the art treasures hidden in 1945 are searched for. It is believed that the tunnel could be one of the hiding places in the Amber Room .
