Athletic career

1950 was the most successful year for football in Thale after the Second World War . First SG Eisenhüttenwerk Thale won the soccer championship in Saxony-Anhalt , then the sports community qualified through the promotion round for the GDR league and finally they won the final of the GDR soccer cup on September 3, 1950 with a 4-0 victory over KWU Erfurt . Midfielder Walter Klapproth was also involved in all three events.

Klapproth became a regular player in his first league season in 1950/51. Of the 34 league games played, he played 31 games and scored three goals. In the course of the season, the SG EHW was converted into the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Thale. 1951/52 Klapproth had to sit out several times and could not be used in the last ten league games. He completed only 19 of 36 league games, but still scored two goals.

1952/53 was already Klapproth's last league season. In 32 league games, he was only used seven times at the beginning of the first half of the season, and at the end of the second half of the season he played eight league games. He didn't score any more goals. This ended his career in high-class football.
