Walter Koch (also Walther Koch ; born April 14, 1875 in Ottensen ; † June 30, 1915 in Zurich ) was a German painter, graphic artist ( poster artist ) and interior designer who mainly worked in Switzerland.

Life

Born the son of the painter Rudolf Wilhelm Koch , he studied at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts , was then from 1893 to 1896 at the Berlin Art Academy with the sculptor Johannes Boese in Berlin, but then returned to the arts and crafts in Hamburg.

Because of a lung disease, Koch moved to Davos in 1898 . In addition to landscape painting, he mainly dealt with poster art. In the landscape painting of the mountains of Graubünden he was influenced by Ferdinand Hodler and Emil Cardinaux . Despite his poor health, he created numerous tourist posters for tourism in Graubünden.

For the Swiss National Exhibition in Bern in 1914 , he designed the pavilion for the Davos spa system and received the great exhibition prize for it. He also designed the interior of the Davos forest sanatorium. He died at the age of 40.
