Walter Roger Martos Ruiz

Walter Roger Martos Ruiz (born November 2, 1957 in Lima , Peru ) is a Peruvian politician who has served as the country's Prime Minister since August 6, 2020. Previously, the former general of the Peruvian Armed Forces was Minister of Defense.

Career

Martos is a graduate of Chorrillos Military School specializing in engineering. He received a master's degree from the Army Superior War College and the Army Scientific and Technological Institute. Martos held various functions within the armed forces. He was General Secretary of the Army Command, General Commander for Education and Doctrine Command, General Commander of the Northern Military Region (2011), Chief of Staff of the Army and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces (2013). He was also the director of the Army Language Center and the deputy director and later director of the military school in Chorrillos district .

Under Prime Minister Vicente Zeballos , Martos was appointed Minister of Defense for his country in October 2019. After the new Prime Minister Pedro Cateriano was not confirmed in office by the Congress of the Republic of Peru , Martos himself was appointed as the new Prime Minister of Peru by President Martín Vizcarra in early August 2020.
