Walter McLean

Walter Franklin McLean , PC (born April 26, 1936 in Leamington , Ontario ) is a Presbyterian clergyman and politician of the progressive-conservative party of Canada , who was a member of the Lower House of Canada between 1979 and 1993 and was at times a minister.

Life

McLean completed an undergraduate degree , which he completed with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). A post-graduate studies of theology he graduated with a Master of Divinity from (M.Div.) And a Doctor of Divinity (DD). Another study of law , he graduated with a doctorate in law from (LL.D.). He was chaplain of the Royal Canadian Air Force's 404th  Squadron and then a management consultant. In 1976 he began his political career when he became Alderman of Waterloo and held this office until 1979.

On May 22, 1979 McLean was elected as a candidate of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada for the first time to the member of the House of Commons of Canada and represented in this until October 24, 1993 the constituency of Waterloo in Ontario . During his parliamentary membership he was a member of various standing committees and chairman of subcommittees of the House of Commons and from April 1980 to September 1981 first spokesman for his group on the status of women before he was group spokesman for the affairs of the Secretary of State for Canada between September 1981 and 1984. He was Secretary of State for Canada in the 24th cabinet of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney from September 17, 1984 to August 19, 1985. He then served as Minister of State for Immigration between August 20, 1985 and September 26, 1986.
