Walter Meng

Walter Meng (born July 11, 1926 ; † March 7, 2016 in Schorndorf , Baden-Württemberg ) was a German Protestant deacon , author and holder of the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Life

Walter Meng was born in the Black Forest and, after returning from French captivity, trained as a deacon and community helper at Karlshöhe Ludwigsburg . In 1951 he founded as a youth officer in the dean's office Gaildorf the YMCA - Camp Buchhorn in Michelbach an der Bilz near Schwäbisch Hall, for which he, the 1989 Federal Cross of Merit was given. Between 1954 and 1959 he headed the Diakonische Bezirksstelle Schorndorf, which he had built up, and then worked as a consultant in the theological department at the Diakonisches Werk . From 1974 to 1989 he worked as head of the Stuttgart City Mission. He was one of the initiators of the EKD telephone pastoral care and initiated the airport pastoral care in Frankfurt am Main. The daily changing telephone message with short sermons was created on his initiative.

Meng was a founding member and district chairman of the Evangelical Working Group of the CDU Rems-Murr and, after his retirement, was its honorary chairman for many years. He was involved in the parish council of the local reconciliation parish in Schorndorf, the general parish council, was a member of the district synod and honorary chairman of the YMCA Schorndorf. He was chairman of the Association of Midnight Missions in Germany and for over 20 years he was regional chairman of the Württemberg regional association of "Missionary Services in the Hotel and Catering Industry" in Germany. From the church partnership he initiated in the 1950s with the Thuringian city of Kahla , a parish partnership with Schorndorf emerged in 1991 .

Private

In 1956 he married Lore Dürrich in Ottendorf near Gaildorf. He had three sons with her and lived in Schorndorf.
