Walter Pelka

Walter Pelka (* 1953 in Düsseldorf ) is a German civil engineer and was President of HafenCity University Hamburg from October 2010 to June 2019 .

Life

Walter Pelka studied civil engineering at RWTH Aachen University and then did a research stay at the University of California in Berkeley . In 1983 he received his doctorate back in Aachen and in the following years until 1986 he headed the research area “Groundwater” at the RWTH. In 1986 he moved to the consulting engineering company Lahmeyer International in Frankfurt, where he set up the new environmental protection and environmental technology division. In 1999 Pelka took over the management of the classification, testing and certification company Bureau Veritas SA in Hamburg for the subsidiaries in Germany and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in the technical areas of construction, industry, transport and logistics, certification, shipping, international trade, and air - and space travel. In 2006, Pelka moved to DEKRA Industrial GmbH as Managing Director , before being appointed President of HafenCity University in autumn 2010.

Pelka is also the managing partner of H2Yacht GmbH , which manufactures boats with fuel cells .

Walter Pelka is married and has two children. He lives with his family in Hamburg.
