Walter Rotach

Walter Rotach (born February 28, 1872 in Wolfhalden ; † November 28, 1928 in Herisau ; resident in Herisau) was a Swiss pedagogue , writer and dialect poet from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Walter Rotach was a son of Jakob Rotach, a teacher , and Margaretha Diem. In 1896 he married Emilie Hohl, daughter of Johann Jakob Hohl, hairdresser . From 1888 to 1891 he attended the teachers' college in Kreuzlingen . From 1891 to 1894 he was a teacher at the Zurich Institute for the Deaf and Mute . From 1894 to 1896 he taught in Wolfhalden and from 1896 until his death in Herisau. Rotach became known beyond the Appenzellerland with its youth memories Vo Ärbet, Gsang and Liebi , written in the traditional Herisau dialect , published in 1924 and reprinted in 1981. They are both a moral image and a declaration of love to the parents' home . His two most important local history publications include the Heimatbuch für young Appenzeller , published in 1927, and the local history Die Gemeinde Herisau from 1929.
