Michael Beaney

Michael Beaney (* 1959 in Melton ) is a British philosopher . In 2020 he was appointed Regius Professor of Logic at the University of Aberdeen . Parallel to this professorship, Beaney holds the professorship for the history of analytical philosophy at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Beaney graduated in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at St Catherine's College of the University of Oxford , where he B.Phil and D.Phil acquired in philosophy. As a research assistant, he moved to the University of Sheffield in 1986 , where he stayed until 1988. In 1990 he started working at Birkbeck College , from where he moved to the University of Leeds in 1992 . In 1998 he moved to the University of Manchester . From 1999 to 2000 Beaney worked on a Humboldt Research Fellowship at the University of Erlangen

From 2000 to 2005 Beaney worked at the Open University . In 2005 he took a position as a philosophy reader at the University of York . Without giving up his work in York, he received another Humboldt Research Fellowship from 2006 to 07 at the University of Jena. In 2009 he was appointed professor in the same position.

Beaney was visiting professor at Beijing University in 2011 and at Beijing Normal University in 2013 and 2014.

Research and Teaching

Beaney enjoys international recognition for his work on the history of analytical philosophy, particularly on Frege , Wittgenstein and Collingwood .

In addition to his research, Beaney is also the editor of the British Journal for the History of Philosophy .
